AR in the Built Environment
An augmented-reality viewer that places a planned building at its exact, geolocated spot in the world — so planners, developers and the public can assess a development in situ, at full scale, before it’s built.
Overview
This project uses real-time rendering and AR to drop a proposed building onto its real location — anchored to its actual coordinates so you can walk around the site and see the development at full scale, in context, long before ground is broken.
It opens up collaborative opportunities in the built environment: planners, architects, developers and residents can stand on the same spot and assess massing, sightlines and impact together, rather than from a flat render or a model on a table.
What I built
- A geolocated AR viewer that anchors a building model to its exact real-world position and scale.
- Real-time lighting and materials so the proposal reads believably against the real surroundings.
- A walk-around experience aimed at planning and development assessment — judging a building in the place it will actually stand.
